Summary:

  • Streaming the replacement of cable TV, using the internet.

  • A Streaming Stick is a more portable device that allows your TV to stream shows

  • Should you get one?

So this site is all about Amazon's Fire TV stick, but what exactly is it? That's exactly what I first thought when I heard of it. Here's a quick and easy layman read on arguably the world's most upcoming entertainment technology: streaming sticks.

I'm sure that almost everyone with a decent internet connection know about Netflix (Well if you don't here's a quick link to their homepage). Netflix, and other streaming sites such as peacock and Disney+, provides viewers an online channel to watch shows and movies. Think of it like cable TV, except that there are no cables, all you need is an internet connection. The TV is an entertainment which most homes in this 21st century would have, and it seems possibly in the near future, most of our homes would run streaming services on our TV instead of using cables.

What is Streaming?

In short, streaming sites allows viewers to watch content by transmitting the content over an internet connection. This way, there is no longer any need for cables to the device. While this idea of streaming started out on devices such as computers and tablets which largely relies on internet connections, internet connection is now also a very common capability of TVs. Furthermore, many streaming services are starting in-house shows and content that are wildly popular, and only available on their sites (e.g. Netflix). Hence, it is becoming more and more desirable to stream from these sites using TVs, since many of the popular shows are no longer on cable channels but are on streaming sites.

What are Streaming Sticks?

Skipping a few years of the technology for TV streaming, enter Streaming Sticks. They are basically a more portable and affordable device that could allow you to stream your favorite shows on your TV! They basically run the same way explained in the previous paragraph, but now plugged into your TV, you can stream it directly on your TV screen. The experience of watching shows in TV is much more enjoyable then a computer screen as seen from the huge popularity of such gadgets.

Should you get one?

There are currently more and more streaming sticks that are available in the market, and even existing ones are having upgraded versions every 1-2 years. How do we keep up with all of these? Read some of our other posts to see what you can consider. Mainly:

  • each brand of streaming sticks may not have the all the available streaming sites

  • streaming sticks are much smaller than TV boxes and hence would have a limited storage space for streaming apps

  • different brands and models would have different specifications, differing from image quality, to sound quality and many other functions

Too much to consider? Not to worry! Our site is not for tech junkies, but we are concerned about what the average person would desire in a streaming experience. Start with the Amazon Fire TV Stick (4k)!
