When people think about Fire Stick Apps, most would be thinking of streaming services such as Netflix or Youtube; but one thing that we find amazing about the Amazon Fire TV Stick is its Amazon Firestick remote app.

What do I need the app for when Amazon already provided the Fire TV Stick Remote?

Well, as much as the Remote was a highlight of the Fire Stick products that we reviewed, there is still a need for the Firestick Remote App because of the convenience it brings with being able to use your phone as a remote! Here are 3 reasons you would want to download the Amazon Firestick App:

1. Perfect replacement for the Fire TV Stick Remote

As good as the Amazon Remote is, if you lose it in the depths of some old couch, it would be a hassle and extra cost to replace it. The Amazon Fire Stick App remote would be a free and identical replacement to your loss!

2. Type on your phone, control the Fire TV Stick!

If you like using the Youtube app to search for specific videos, or actually, for any searches on the Fire Stick, you will need to type on the on-screen keyboard. It maybe quite difficult and slow to press each letter manually. Instead, using the Firestick Remote App, you can use your phone's keyboard to type! So much easier!

Also, you can actually launch your Fire Stick Apps by clicking the icon that looks like three boxes with a "+" sign, second icon from the top right hand corner of the interface (Check out the picture at the end of this post)! Without having to scroll through the apps on your TV screen, you may find it handier to just switch your preferred service on from your phone!

3. Alexa Functions still intact

Okay, so this isn't really a big plus-point for the application if you have your remote. But still worth a mention because the full experience that you paid for is not compromised when you download this app to replace your remote!

4. Why the Firestick Remote App? Why not other Remote Apps?

A quick search on your app store will show you that there are numerous TV Remote Apps available, even universal remotes that can control not just your Fire TV but also other streaming devices. Examples include would be CetusPlay Global's remote, available on the on Google Play or Weewoo Mobile's on the Apple App Store. We think that there are many great options available, but why go for these when Amazon has their own official remote application for the Fire TV Sticks?

Our opinion (and of many others) is that it would be more straightforward and safe, to use the application which Amazon has designed for their Firesticks. Give Amazon's official firestick remote app a go! And if it works for you, why bother trying out a foreign device?

How to set up the Firestick Remote App?

1. Go to your phone's appstore and download the "Amazon Fire TV" App

Check them out here!

3. Run the firestick remote app and log into your Amazon Account

Make sure that your phone is connected to the same Wifi Connection as your Fire Stick.

If at this point, your app still does not display your Fire Stick name:

Click on "New Devices" and sign into your Amazon account. And you should be able to see your device on the screen.

4. Click on your Fire Stick name and the app will require a 4-digit code

The required code will appear on your TV screen! Key in the code on your phone and press enter. And you are DONE! You should be seeing the remote on your phone already!
